Game Time is about the excited anticipation of competition. The musical ideas relate to each other like members of a well-organised team. When the melody is transferred from instrument to instrument, it's almost as if another team or player is chiming in to let us know they are ready.
A much as can be seen in sports, the main melody has a playful quality to it, with an emphasis often placed on notes outside the tonic chord, such as scale degrees 2 and 7. This adds just a bit of dissonance and whimsy. A deeling of fun should never be lost. (2:45)
