Concerto Number 1 by Dmitri Kabalevsky is the second of three concertos composed for young soviet performers. These concertos all follow standard form, and interestingly, the cycle of three student concertos follow the standard movement form as well. The first of the three, the violin concerto, is fast, followed by the lyrical cello concerto, and brilliant piano concerto. Though this concerto was composed with younger soloists in mind, it is not watered down... it's very technically demanding.
