The first part of Zoltán Kodály’s four-volume pedagogical series, Pentatonic Music, was first published by the Hungarian State Music Publisher in 1958. The 100 Hungarian folk songs in the first booklet help children to practice the reading and writing of music through folk songs that are already familiar to them. The solmization and memorization of melodies also helps to develop a proper sense of intonation. The four booklets in the series are recommended alongside 333 Elementary Exercises in Sight-Singing, primarily for pupils and teachers of solfeggio/singing.
