From March 2020 until April 2021, all wind and brass ensembles fell silent throughout Scotland due to the Coronavirus pandemic. As news broke of a potential return to making music, I composed this piece for my beginner wind band. It was the first piece of music we played together after 410 days of silence, and for some, it was their first ever experience of playing in a wind band.
This piece of music is a celebration of making music together, of being together, and of looking forward with hope after such a challenging time. The pandemic has impacted all our lives, and this piece is a chance for beginner wind bands the world over to look forward to, and celebrate, the hope and joy that making music together brings.
