The Flagship - arr. Neridah Oostenbroek (Grade 1)
Key: E minor
Instrumentation: Vln 1, Vln 2, Vln 3, Vla, Cello, Bass, Piano
The Flagship was inspired from the journey my father made by boat from Holland to Australia in 1957. The piece depicts the migrant ship, Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt, on its travels across the oceans from Rotterdam to Brisbane. The piece is in E minor and should be played with a feeling of grandeur and impressiveness. It has melodic interest in all parts and is in 1 st position throughout with simple beginner hand patterns. A great piece for beginner ensembles with an optional piano part providing more interest and richness to the texture.
