Like most of Wieniawski's compositions, L'Ecole Moderne, Op. 10, pushes the violinist's capabilities to the limit. Essentially a collection of virtuosic etudes addressing specific techniques (up- and down-bow staccato, for example), each of the ten studies is a dazzling performance piece unto itself. These works are for solo violin, though Jascha Heifetz often played them with piano accompaniment; where he came up with them, we're not sure.
